Duct tape mannequin

A duct tape dummy is a cast (or negative impression) of your body made of duct tape that we can then use as a mannequin. In many cases we will need your DTD to adjust sizes and create detailed cutouts, especially if your costume includes foam body pads. DTD’s are a must when ordering a tight body fursuit.

What will you need for a DTD?

  1. A disposable painters coverall or similar item. Usually sold at hardware stores. It looks like a jumpsuit made of thin white translucent fabric.
  2. Duct tape. It is better to choose a reinforced one.
  3. Scissors so that the DTD can be easily removed after wrapping the person with duct tape.
  4. Black felt marker for labeling.

You’ll also need a helper.

Step 1

Put on the jumpsuit. First, tape the knees, shoulders, hips, and waist with duct tape. This will secure the jumpsuit in place. Make sure the duct tape doesn’t sag!

Step 2

Cover a person completely with the tape, starting at the ankles and gradually working your way up. The tape should conceal 100% of the body.

Step 3

Cover yourself completely with tape. Also, the tape should overlap. This means you must wrap a new layer on top of the previous layer, going higher each time.

Step 4

Make sure the tape is not sagging, that it covers the entire body, that there are no holes between layers of tape.

Step 5

Be sure to sign the front and back sides with a marker.

Step 6

It will be ideal if you also draw the cut line, shoulders and waist line.

Step 7

It will be ideal if you also mark your knees.

Step 8

Carefully cut the DTD along the cut line. Do this with scissors, not a stationery knife. If you have done this correctly, the DTD will be easy to remove.

Шаг 9

DTD готов! Тщательно упакуйте его и отправьте нам ^0^

In addition to the DTD, we may also need your measurements. You can read about here.
